Mana whenua of Ahuriri are closely connected through whakapapa to Tangaroa and Pānia. Traditional stories related to the marine environment also hold important significance.

Below are the results of each of the Tohu Whāiti associated with this Tohu Matua. These Tohu Whāiti collectively inform the overall health of this Tohu Matua.
